Our very own expert wedding planner, Annika, tied the knot last weekend in a gorgeous rustic island wedding in Crete! Every dazzling detail was accounted for on her big day. What happens when a wedding planner gets married you wonder? Let's just say it might be the best wedding you've ever been to!

It's hard to know what to talk about first when writing about this very special wedding in Crete.  The venue, the flowers and decoration, the beautiful bride and groom and their adorable baby boy.... there were so many wonderful details lovingly thought out.  Having so many years of experience as a wedding planner gave the bride a head start on what to focus on.  You can't go to that many weddings and not know how to throw a good party, right?!

The ceremony was a traditional Greek Orthodox ceremony full of rituals and ancient mysticism. Friends and family gathered around the couple and their little boy, who was also baptized after the wedding ceremony, to share their love and support for the couple. Gorgeous wooden pillars decorated with glowing candles and freshly cut flowers adorned either side of the church entrance.

After the ceremony a cocktail reception was held at the kazani, or distillery, of this traditional rustic estate in Crete.  Guests greeted the couple and toasted them with locally made wine & finger foods.  While the happy couple and their guests enjoyed themselves downstairs at the distillery, upstairs preparations were underway.  Finishing touches were put to the tables, wines were being uncorked, and food was being plated.

It's hard not to talk about the food at a wedding and this wedding in Crete is no exception!  Beautifully prepared organic local produce and meat was served in various forms, all honoring Cretan cuisine.  This traditional estate in Crete prides itself on its exquisite cuisine and has won awards both local and international.  During the dinner the newlyweds made their grand entrance to the tune of U2's Beautiful Day.  There were cheers & applaus and the celebrations continued...

After dinner things kicked into high gear with dancing and cocktails.  A special cocktail bar was set-up with an experienced mixologist at its helm.  I have to say that the passion swizzle was the best cocktail I have ever tasted.  Delicately sweet, lightly fizzy and a joy to sip!

After a few of those special cocktails the crowd was ready to hit the dancefloor.  Traditional Greek music, as well as today's hits, were enjoyed by all guests big and small.  The wedding party danced until dawn under a beautiful Cretan sky dotted with twinkling stars.

Even though it was just a few days ago, this wedding in Crete has already left me with a feeling of nostalgia.  No doubt many other guests, especially those who came from abroad, are feeling the same way.  There are many, many details that go into planning a wedding, and this wedding in Crete was no exception.  Every last detail was carefully thought out and seemlessly executed for the couple and their guests to enjoy.  We wish them many happy years together! Να ζησετε!
